About this Notice

This App Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use and share your data when you use our app, including information about the device that the app is installed on, for example, your mobile phone or tablet. Protecting your privacy is important to us and we'll take good care of any personal data that you share, or we collect.

We are Coventry Building Society. The Group includes Coventry Building Society and its subsidiaries:

Your location

Allows us to check any unusual or suspicious activity on your device to prevent payment scams and fraudulent activities.

Your biometric information

Allows you to use your biometric credential, such as Face ID or Touch ID (fingerprint recognition). You will use this to log on, make a payment, request a change or do anything within the app that requires your permission to proceed. Biometric information refers to the biometric credentials stored on your device (e.g., Face ID or Touch ID). These are never shared outside your device and are used only for secure authentication.

We also collect device related information including the phone number provided at the time of registration and the phone number used when the app is in operation to help us prevent and detect fraud. 

Your application's permissions

  • Allows Apple Store/ Google Play Store to keep a record from where you downloaded the CBS UK Mobile Banking app
  • High sampling rate sensors: Allows us to check any unusual or suspicious activity on your device to prevent payment scams and fraudulent activities
  • Application information: Allows us to collect and use technical data and related information (including but not limited to technical information about your device, system and application software) related to the App. We may use this information, as long as it is in a form that does not personally identify you, to improve our products and services or technologies to you. This also helps us to protect you and us from financial crime. 
  • Bluetooth connect: Allows us to detect the types and number of devices connected to your phone/tablet via Bluetooth because fraudsters can use it to monitor or control your device(s). This helps us to detect and prevent fraud.
  • Read phone state: Allows us to know if you’re on a call while using the app. This helps us to detect and prevent fraud.

Your device information and internet access

Allows you to share device data, including phone number and allows us to check if you have a working internet connection.

How we use your information

We collect, use and share information about you so that we can provide you with a savings or mortgage account and related services.

 

This app is provided by Coventry Building Society and all products and services accessed via this app are provided by us, our group companies or selected partners.

 

We use your personal data to provide and improve our mobile banking services. This includes enabling secure login and authentication, processing transactions, and managing your accounts. By using the app, you allow us to deliver the services you request and maintain the functionality you expect.

 

We also process your data to comply with legal and regulatory obligations, such as preventing fraud and financial crime. This helps us protect both you and the organisation from risks and ensures we meet our statutory duties.

 

In addition, we use technical information about your device and app usage to maintain and improve performance, enhance security, and develop new features. These activities are carried out under our legitimate interests to provide a safe and reliable service.

 

Who we share your information with

We may share your data with other entities in the CBS Group. This also includes any sub-contractors, agents or service providers who work for any CBS entity (including their employees, sub-contractors, service providers, directors and officers) so we can provide you with products or services that you ask for (such as savings accounts and payments).

 

We may also use your data to detect or prevent fraud and financial crime, or answer requests from our regulators etc. When we no longer need your data, we’ll destroy it or anonymise it, safely and securely, in line with our rules on how long we keep your data for.

 

While we hold your data, we’ll keep it safe and secure. And we’ll regularly review the rules around how long we keep it for. Holding your data allows us to comply with our legal and regulatory duties. We also use it for legitimate purposes, such as managing your account and dealing with any complaints, disputes or concerns that may arise.
