About us

Royal British Legion

A partnership we're proud of

We’ve shared a lot of stories over 15 years

This is our story

Royal British Legion
In our final months of partnership, we’re reflecting on our shared story with the Royal British Legion. A partnership we’re proud of and an unforgettable friendship we’ve shared together.

“On behalf of the Royal British Legion and all those we support I would like to personally thank everyone at the Coventry Building Society for their role in supporting the Armed Forces community throughout our fifteen-year partnership. From running the miles to raising the pounds, and everything in between, CBS colleagues and members have been true champions of RBL’s work in their communities.

As we reflect on all that this partnership has achieved, we are truly grateful for the network of volunteers, Society members and colleagues at CBS, who share our passion for bringing people together to support, commemorate and celebrate our Armed Forces community. We would not be able to continue to help them without you – thank you.” - Charles Byrne, Director General - Royal British Legion

We've donated over £20 million, a figure we could only have dreamed of 15 years ago

Whether it's popping a penny in a donation tin, picking up a poppy in one of our branches or opening a Poppy savings account, our donations have had a lasting impact on the lives of so many.

Our partnership has helped us fund all of RBL's:

  • Benefits, Debt and Money Advice (BDMA) Service (supporting 12,487 people to overcome complicated financial difficulties they have faced alone or with their families)
  • Case Officers in the Midlands (supporting 23,963 people through welfare support and advice to tackle hurdles in their life that they have faced after leaving service)
  • Battle Back Centre coaching (supporting 7,137 people through expert coaching to grow their confidence and positively impact their mental health and wellbeing)
  • Employment Support Grants since 2021 (supporting 411 people to empower them to get on the right career path).

We are so proud of what we have achieved together. Without your support, we would not have been able to help nearly 44,000 members of the Armed Forces community.

We’ve valued every volunteer

We've done a lot of volunteering in the last 15 years. 4680 hours given by 844 colleagues.

We've planted poppies, shared stories, collected for the Poppy Appeal and forged friendships. And our colleagues have shown us how to put the FUN in fundraising - regardless of the challenge ahead.

Together we've pedalled to Paris, ran Marathons, climbed mountains and competed in bake offs. All to support and raise money for the work of the Royal British Legion.

We thanked those who never came home

Coventry, as a city, will never forget the bravery of those who served. Our buildings and communities all have stories. And aside from fundraising to support RBL, one of our greatest privileges as a business was the opportunity to thank those who never came home, for giving us the freedom we have today. Our award-winning ‘thank you’ campaign ensured everyone from Coventry who served was remembered as we marked 100 years since the end of WW1.

And today we celebrate 15 years of friendship.

A relationship to be proud of. One that all together, we’ll never forget.
